When I feel like I need a little boost to continue saving money or want to expand my horizons to select places to travel to, I have a few key movies and series I love to watch for inspiration. I thought I'd share those with you. Who knows, they may inspire you to go to destinations you had not dreamed of yet!
For adventure and expanding my mind, my #1 favourite is the Canadian TV series Departures. Three Canadians in their late twenty’s travel the world for three years and discover some popular and also least travelled spots. They go to Japan, India, Cambodia, Brazil, New Zealand, Thailand, as well as spots, like remote Mongolian steps, Antarctica, North Korea, Libya, Zambia, and Ascension Island. The latter has my favourite moment of the entire series.
When I want to see the beautiful side of cultures and countries that may be considered poor, overpopulated, and chaotic, I really love to watch The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. They inspire me to go to places I could be quick to judge. Obviously I'm careful and research the locations first. They're still only movies. They also inspire me to stay in shape and show me that I can travel for a very long time!
A movie that moves me deeply is Under the Tuscan Sun. I'm a minimalism and adventure passionate. I love that she leaves her previous life behind with one single box. She his wounded and needs to rebuild herself. In her new life, she rebuilds an old villa in Tuscany and builds new dear relationships, learns to live in the moment, and realizes that her dreams are coming true in unusual ways. There's a great philosophy in this movie and it speaks to me. In 2004, I had a really rough moment in my life. I lost many dear things all at once. Instead of sinking in despair, I jumped on a plane to Walt Disney World. I was twenty-four. When I saw this movie a few years later, it really resonated with me.
Finally, for today, my last recommendation is Rise of the Continents. It’s a four-episode mini-series by BBC where Scottish geologist Iain Stewart beautifully explains how the continents were formed and how they move. It explains the existence of the Victoria falls in Africa, the Yanartaş (flaming rocks) in Turkey, and so much more. It’s amazing to see how Australia and Antarctica where connected. I love to have this knowledge when travelling. I love to learn and understand. I have a soft spot for science and geology.
Who Am I? I'm many things. I'm passionate about tons of stuff. I love travel. I love self-improvement. I'm a sucker for optimization, efficiency, and minimalism. I renewed with mathematics and science, those are so amazing. Astronomy and chemistry are just plain awesome! I'm a student, a mentor, a traveler, a learner, an artist, an animator, and Disney brings me tears of joy! I love to grow and I will never stop! So who am I? All that and everything else I have not discovered about myself yet. It's a never ending answer!
Qui suis je? Je suis beaucoup de choses. Je suis passionné des tonnes de trucs. J'adore voyager.
